L6.12 ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY
Resources - Text

A number of textual resources are available that support training in atomic absorption spectroscopy for chemical laboratory technicians. More information (appearing in a new browser window) can be obtained by clicking on each book title. The book title in the new browser window is hyperlinked to the current book information on the publisher's web site when available. All links to book pages on publisher's web sites are direct to book information, except for the Wiley site. Wiley requires you to enter a country and then click on Enter catalog before you are taken to the specific book information page. I have also linked the name of the publisher to their general home page. Books listed below have either been examined or recommended to me by reliable sources. Specific comments by me regarding the usefulness of these textbooks for technician training are also included on the linked pages.

A number of textbooks designed for Quantitative Analysis or Instrumental Analysis contain chapters dealing with atomic absorption spectroscopy. Textbooks include:

There are a few recent books dealing specifically with atomic absorption spectroscopy (there are many more that cover it as part of the broad category of atomic spectroscopy or atomic/mass spectrometry). Some of these books tend to be very expensive and are useful more as reference texts than for tutorial purposes, while others, particularly the "practical guides" will be of significant value to the technician new to AA.

An extremely useful book that deals with all the sample collection and preparation processes that lead to the AA measurement is Inorganic Trace Analysis: Philosophy and Practice, A. G. Howard and P. J. Statham, Wiley, NY, 1997.

Finally, texts dealing with AA that are out-of-print but can still be found on library shelves and are of significant value are:
