Sanderson Milliken, who was born on this day, did research
in molecular orbital and electronic structure of molecules for
which he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1966.
- June 8, 1918 - John
D. Roberts applied nuclear magnetic resonance to organic
chemistry and did research on molecular orbital calculations.
This was his birthday.
- June 12, 1890 - This is the birthday of Wallace R. Brode.
He is a Honorary member of SAS and an authority on chemical spectroscopy.
- June 18, 1918 - Jerome
Karle who developed methods for the determination of crystal
structures with x-rays, was born on this day. He shared the Nobel
Prize in Chemistry with Herbert
A. Hauptman in 1985.

for Applied Spectroscopy, the International Conference on Spectroscopy,
1962, and the Xth Colloquium Spectroscopium Internationale, College
Park, MD
- June 25, 1864 - The birthday of Walther
H. Nernst, who devised the source used in IR and the Nernst
equation relating voltage of the half-cell to concentration.
He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1920 for the discovery
of 3rd Law of Thermodynamics.
- July 1, 1959 - First nuclear rocket engine was successfully
tested on this day

day.
- July 10, 1843 - William deW. Abney, a researcher in photographic
chemistry, color photography and printing, was born on this date.
- July 12, 1854 - This is the birthdate of George Eastman,
who invented the Kodak film, the Kodak camera in1888, daylight
loading film in 1891, and in 1928, color film, and founded the
Eastman Kodak Company.
- July 13, 1888 - William F. Meggers, a deceased Honorary Member
of SAS, was born on this day. He was regarded by some as the
Dean of American Spectroscopists and was a pioneer in spectrochemistry.
- July 16, 1945 - Explosion of first atomic bomb took place
at Trinity Site, Alamogordo Air Force Base, New Mexico, on this
day in 1945.

of hydrocarbons, was born on this day.She was the first recipient
of the ACS's Francis Garvan Medal in 1937.
- July 24, 1862 - William H. Bragg, researcher in x-rays &
crystalstructure, was born on this day. He shared the Nobel Prize
in 1915 with his son, W. Lawrence Bragg.
- July 31, 1825 - This is the birthday of Wilhelm Beer who
discovered that absorption of light is related to amount and
length of absorbing material(Beer's Law).
